  • Foster reading habits both in children and in adults accompany them;
  • Introduce children to the world of stories, books and libraries;
  • Stimulate shared reading between parents and children;
  • Encourage parents and educators to make the library a place to frequent with their children and enjoy its services;
  • Offer help to parents and educators in selecting appropriate books for each age group;
  • Incentivise parents and educators to collaborate on certain activities, inviting them to take part in some sessions.

Expected impact

As this is an ongoing project (started in January 2006) it has had a great impact on the community, especially among adults and their children.

Procedures and methodologies

The Educational Service Team will select several works of literature for children, whose themes will be different and relevant. After the story, a guest will make a brief approach to the story in question.

The stories will be animated by the Team, through narration or any other playful technique (shadow theatre, kamishibai, puppets, etc…).

This project will be developed in the Library of Portimão, on the last Saturday of each month, at 4pm for children aged between 4 and 10, always accompanied by adults.
