The "Reading Moments" competition is an initiative of the school libraries of the Municipality of Portimão, aimed to the four levels of education.

The initiative aims to promote reading, develop comprehension and oral expression among students in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle and High school.

Developed by the School Libraries Network of Portimão and Monchique, in partnership with the municipal libraries of both districts, this competition is the culmination of the annual work around encouraging reading.

The competition aims to articulate the texts proposed for reading in the Portuguese curriculum goals, contribute to the development of the National Reading Plan and encourage the use of school and municipal library, at the same time as it marks the World Day of the Portuguese Language, which is celebrated on May 5th.

The teachers who evaluate the young competitors take into consideration several selection criteria, including reading fluency, respect for punctuation/ intonation, diction/pronunciation, intonation, rhythm and expressiveness.
